“These are the times that try men's souls.” | We are close to the Great Salt Lake, which is quite a economic revenue in itself. People fly over it, drive by it and first think nothing here to look at. Brine Shrimp eggs are harvested off the lake and dried processed and then sold for fish food like the big shrimp we all eat at home or restaurants. To kind of put things into prospective a tote bag of this brine shrimp is worth over a million bucks I was told from neighbors that are knowledgeable about the industry.
For years the industry harvested off the lake and the state of Utah had no clue as to the wealth being generated. They finally caught on and started permitting and collecting fees from them. What brought attention to them was the murders and fights on the lake shores during harvest. So state came in and regulated them to get thier cut of the pie.
We have a person that has quite a business harvesting shrimp here in Snowville.
