Tama iowa | ISU told me that if I can get my cattle up to 12# of corn per day I can turn them out on a zeroed out corn field. Corn will be disked which didn't put much dirt in the mat of fodder. I tried this in about 8 acres out of a 40 acre field. It did break up cobs and slice residue some. Figured corn is about 180 bushels.
Has anyone tried this. Should I leave it as is or continue disking. If I did my math right it's like 6 days of corn per my herd per acre. I have about a 110 cows. I'm not so sure that the cost to feed them would be in the 70 cent range. That would be cheaper then current system and less work. I would also like to plant rye in this to have more feed yet this year.
Just looking for any tips or experiences. | |
