SC Wisconsin | so im putting in rye for the first time. On piece is corn going to be chopped this week. Other piece was oats. The corn silage ground I already decided on notilling into it. The oat ground had quite a bit of grass and weeds coming under it when i cut it earlier this summer. I hauled a couple loads of manure on it but nothing heavy yet.. I was originally planning on covering it with manure heavy, ripping it and then soil finishing before planting the rye with a conventional drill. Since this got covered with manure last year and will be beans next year, I'm tempted to skip the manure and just notill into the oat stubble/ grass/weeds. Its been really dry here since I cut the oats so there isn't alot of growth coming from the grass anyways. Will the rye push through this cover, or will it choke out? I can get a pic of the field tomorrow. Thanks
Here's a couple pics of what it looks like now, its mainly foxtail and crabgrass, thinner in some spots and thicker in others
