Results came back for the 2 competition steers I posted about last week, I have added the pics again. We thought they would be over the fat specs but didn't realise how far over they would be. If there was a prize I would have won fattest steer of the show. The first steer measured 21mm of rib fat so scored 0/15 and put him out of the running. Max points were for 9 to 10mm. He did score 5/5 for marbling and scored 17/20 for eye muscle area and finished 30th out of 39 in the weight class. The second steer wasn't as far out of specs and finished 13th in the same weight class. He scored 4/5 marbling and 20/20 for EMA. The steers were actually prepared for shows back in April and May but they were both cancelled, so they were fed for 3 or 4 months more then planned, which is why they were well over fat. I guess the lesson here is not to feed for months after they are already finished. Still a couple of very nice steers, I am happy with how they turned out, just didn't fit the market specs for this comp.
