I'm open to any suggestion here. We bought two bred Jersey heifers in early March. One calved in March and was easy to train to go to the stanchion for milking. The other calved last week. She has never touched grain, doesn't want it. We've been putting out small amounts since we got those two. She sniffs it and walks away So of course we now can't bribe her with corn (and it's organic non gmo even). She's not mean, but she knows she's not going into the stanchion. We've been milking a little bit out of her every day to get the bag settled down, the calf stays on our Jerseys. Anyway, most days we wind up tying a rope to her halter and milking her where ever we can tie her. She stands perfectly for milking, of course she pulls back tight on the rope but that's it. Anyway, what do we do? She loves the calf but we can't even use the calf to lure her in any more. We've milked Jerseys for the house for 6 years and have never had one like this. |
