Subject: Any old school Kohler engine mechanics on here?

S.C. Wisconsin
I am restoring my 1962 Polaris Sno Traveler and started to work on the K161 Kohler engine today. I couldn't get any spark our of it so I decided the pull the flywheel expecting to find a set of points. There doesn't seem to be any points but has a small magneto which hooks to a coil . Is this one of those engines that fires on every revolution? The coil appears to be shot as it's split open, making me think that could be the problem. I found a coil online.
