Subject: John Deere Hood-A different kind of cracking

North Dakota, USA
I am asking for a friend of mine. I am not sure what model but he has either an 8X30 or 8r series that cracked around the air intake screen on the top of the hood. It happened when he started it not realizing was iced over. He heard a thump when he right when he started it and once he had let it warm up he noticed the top of the hood was buckled around the screen and when he looked closer, it is cracked. Has anyone had this happen before and if so, is it fixable or time to replace the hood? I have not seen it but I imagine to fix it, it would need to smooth enough to seal up tight around the screen to prevent dust getting in.

The tractor had not been parked anywhere where something could have fallen on the hood either.

I know cracking on some of these tractors is a common problem but the ones I have heard of are cracked on the sides.

Thanks,
