| We’ve got about 120 home grown calves we’ve been feeding since first of December. We normally sell around now but with market the way it is, were sure considering all options. We’ve got a 60 of good pasture, primarily fescue and a 30 right next to it we could plant sedan or millet and graze these calves till the fall. We would rotate them probably once a week.
I’d say most calves are weighing 650ish now..a handful bigger and smaller. There currently getting about 8lbs of corn-ddg/bean meal mix and hay. There probably towards the fleshy side but not bad. We’re used to running cows and feeding weaned calves in the lot through the winter just never have grazed bigger calves through the summer. Curious what you all think and or advice you have? What type of gains are reality on fescue and sedan pasture? Should we keep supplementing them through summer? If so how much? Or just go lowest cost and ride this thing out? Thanks in advance. | |
