Subject: MacDon 974 in down corn??

South Central Nebraska
Am I crazy for thinking about trying my 974 draper in down corn? We don't have a corn reel...yet. Most of the down corn I can get through with the 1083 cornhead, but we have a few acres on old sod ground where the stalks and roots are so rotten they pull right out of the ground. Other than having to run everything through the combine the only other problem I can think of is will an ear of corn bend the retractable fingers in the adapter if they get wedged in between the finger and the floor? Maybe there is enough clearance to let it feed through. Any other problems that I'm not thinking of? If the draper would work it would be alot cheaper than buying a reel for just a couple acres.

Thanks, notill89
