Subject: Loadstart 1700 2-Speed Differential Carrier

Hey Guys,

We currently have a trashed differential on a 1700 International Loadstar. It looks like the axle contains all the parts associated with the typical Eaton Roadranger 16244 except for the ring and pinion gear. It is possible that the original ring and pinion may have been replaced with aftermarket parts since it was delivered without oil in the drive axle. And, it is a 39-6 tooth gear set that do not match any Eaton gearsets part numbers. A 39-6 gearset gives a 6.50/8.86 torque ratio.

Now, the main problem lies with the destroyed following gear cases:

31 Gear Support Case (RH) - 27860
38 Wheel Diff Case - Part Numbers Unknown, looks like 25967 on one half and Cast # 27862 on the other

Note: Wheel Differential Case Kit 51559, seems to be the original case kit part number that may contain
25967 & 27880 (Cast # 27862)

This original differential case works with the following side gear and pinions:

40 Side Gear (16 Straight Splines) 102497
42 Side Pinion 102500
44 Spider 25971

There is an differential case upgrade kit given by Note 1 in the parts list.

Upgrade kit 121965 - Contains side gear 210388 16 Straight Spline IHC (Kit seems to be NLA through Spicer)

So all this basically boils down to three options:

1) Try to find the original cases and put new parts back in them … I have been able to source everything except the differential case.

2) Try to source the upgraded differential housing and the associated parts, which I have not been able to do yet.

3) Find a salvaged or remanufactured differential carrier close to the same gear ratio.

We are located in the SWMO region and any help anyone can offer to get this truck back up and running, would be greatly appreciated. I am almost certain the parts are out there… but finding and getting them here is going to be the biggest challenge.
