Subject: So you're the superior change counter?

Abe and Billy both have a $20 bill in their wallet, and 2 quarters, 3 dimes, 3 nickels, and 6 pennies. They each go up to the register and their items total $15.49. Abe pulls out his 20 and the clerk whips out the 4 1's, 2 quarters, and 1 penny from the presorted slots. Abe leaves with his change. Billy pulls out his 20 and then being the almighty counter of coins sorts through his coins to get a quarter, two dimes and four pennies. The young clerk who just started this morning, looks confused because she already punched in 20.00 in the machine, Billy just stands there with a smug look on his face. She figures it out and gives him a $5 bill and moves on to the person patiently waiting behind him.

Who has more money in his pockets?

On the way home they stop at a vending machine to get a Pepsi that costs $1.50. Abe puts 1 of his dollar bills and 2 quarters in the machine and leaves with his Pepsi. Billy puts in his $5 dollar bill and stands there while it spits 14 quarters back at him.

Who is laughing now?
