Subject: LED lights question??

Pontiac, IL.
I have replaced lights (DC 12 volts) and found them all to be " Polarity Specific". In other words, if you hook them up backwards, they will not light. Switch the wires, and they will light. Yesterday, I changed the fluorescent lights in our shop to LED. On these lights I can switch the bulb end for end and it makes no difference. Why are 12 volt DC lights polarity specific, and 120 V AC lights not. Just wandering.
