Texas/New Mexico Stateline | We've been planning since last fall, and I had asked some of you for advice. I really appreciate the contributions, because it really helped to plan it out. Not having a rental car was no problem, and we all needed the exercise. We just got metro cards and rode buses and the subway everywhere. They also have the "circulator" bus route around the Mall which happened to be free in March! We visited the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History, America, and Air and Space. Also the Museum of the Bible which is a privately run museum. It is extremely nice and very fancy. We got a tour of the Capitol by our congressman's staffer. Which I was glad for instead of the big groups that just come to the visitor's center. I highly recommend you schedule this with your own, as you get to go at more of your own pace, and can see a few extra things. National Archives, and Library of Congress, all the memorials except FDR. About the only thing we missed was we did not get to go into the Supreme Court. Just didn't have the time. Wife's phone said we walked an average of 5-7 miles every day. Also did not get a tour of the White House, but were not really all that eager for that anyway.
Biggest mistake we made was staying a little too late a couple times, and by the time we were getting back to our Hotel the bus routes were more limited. Last night we ended up just walking the last 3/4 mile from the metro station to our motel. Not really the best idea probably, but was faster than trying to find a taxi that would handle a family of 5.
Weather was very nice, each day it got a little nicer until yesterday it was just perfect.
Didn't get to see a much needed rain we had while we were gone. But got to watch it on my home security cameras 1000 miles away. Missed the 72 mph winds also.
We did not stay at Trump Hotel, just wanted a picture for some friends. Did see A LOT of "Make America Great Again" hats EVERYWHERE.......
