North Carolina | We have a couple of river bottoms going to corn this year. The soil tests have consistently shown the phosphate levels to be high in these two fields, with no phosphate fertilizer recommended. During the last couple of rotations we have used a dry starter blend with NPK and S. This blend contained a small amount of P placed in a 2 x 2 band with the planter. Our thinking was that with the cool soils, P uptake might be poor, and we could use that small banded amount of P to get the crop started. It would save time and money if we could just broadcast our N and K and leave off the P on these two fields, but I am concerned we might be missing out on the P during the early part of the season. Is my thinking right on this? | |
