Subject: Liming ahead of alfalfa

Croswell, Michigan
I have a 17 acre field that has just become a pain in the neck for several reasons. I had planned to seed it to alfalfa/orchard grass this spring but when I got the soil test back on it the ph is 5.4. Our retailer is still spreading lime. If I lime it now can I expect enough improvement to go ahead and seed it by mid-May(most likely this field wouldn't dry out before then)? Plan B would be to seed it to oats, cut and wrap them then plant the alfalfa/grass Aug. 1

My first choice would be to seed in in the spring and be done with it.
