south central IOWA | Got a cow that doesn't feel good. Noticed her yesterday kicking at her side, lay down for a few minutes and get back up, kick at her side and then lay back down. Just uncomfortable. Might be bred to calve late April or May. Talked to vet and he thought either compaction or something going on with her kidneys. Too far away from a head gate so I had to resort to my awesome cowboy skills I learned right here on agtalk.
Gave her penicillin yesterday. This morning she had a brownish discharge coming out her rectum so headed to the vet and got some Magnalax boluses thinking she's compacted. The vet wished me luck giving her boluses out in the pasture as I was doing it by myself but I told him I have awesome cowboy skills. Helps that the cow is calm.... ;-)
