south texas | 4840 been acting up for a few years but just does light pto work mostly. Put 20ft shredder on it and transmission fluid got hot, possibly burnt. Haven't drained it yet bc doing pressure tests.
Found high pressure to be fluctuating from 1800-2200. Pulled stroke control valve and it seemed smooth but had some mushy metal paste in the bottom. No change. I can hear the pump surging when close to front.
Tractor will loose 3pt and seat will fall down when operated for about 15mins with no high pressure hydrolics. The hitch and seat will come back if I hit a scv lever.
I checked pto pressure and it 150@ idle and 165-175 at wot. I can see it slightly surging but its just a needle bounce.
Going to check system pressure but figure that if pto is good, so is system.
When I was rrunning it on shredder, the pto would load up the engine after it got hot on me. All gears will stall motor when stepping on breaks. Pto runs smooth in shop today.
Oil is definitely burnt.
System pressure is 150 @ idle and 165-170 @ wot. Its fluctuating about 5psi as well
