Nebraska, The land of corn and cattle | Right now the basis at my local Eplant is -$0.17 on corn, thinking about doing a basis contract and seeing what the market does. This is for 2018 production. I have about 40-45k of unpriced grain, some will be in bins and some will be bagged in the field. Would this be smart or stupid?
Without hiring trucks I cannot keep the corn away from the combine to haul it out of the field to the plant.
Anything less than -$0.10 or .15 is extremely rare here. At the start of harvest it was -$0.35-.45 depending on the destination.
Next question is, can I set that basis for 2019? I know they only bid out 12 months on cash and HTAs |
