Subject: Preg check done, calves gaining, and snow

Spring Ranch, NE
We got the herd preg checked yesterday before this white stuff moved in last night. I'm pretty satisfied with the breeding season. It looks like 83% of heifers took AI and rest bull bred the next cycle. AI'd some cows this year (had a bull go bad, so I was a little lighter on bull power then normal and didn't want to buy another bull) and it looks like 70% of what we tried stuck. I don't have a lot of numbers so percentages look good, predicting a March 5 start and last cow due April 19. I hope he is right! I had two open out of the 50.

I cut the AI bull calves yesterday. They just didn't impress me this year.

Bangs vaccinated some heifers to retain. I'm full up on capacity so I will have to sell some pairs next spring as the grass greens up to keep the herd moving forward.

Hopefully the snow doesn't get too deep this winter. I enjoy the cows out on stalks!

Edit: added a picture of the steer pen shortly after wean and a early August on pasture.
