Spring Ranch, NE | We got the herd preg checked yesterday before this white stuff moved in last night. I'm pretty satisfied with the breeding season. It looks like 83% of heifers took AI and rest bull bred the next cycle. AI'd some cows this year (had a bull go bad, so I was a little lighter on bull power then normal and didn't want to buy another bull) and it looks like 70% of what we tried stuck. I don't have a lot of numbers so percentages look good, predicting a March 5 start and last cow due April 19. I hope he is right! I had two open out of the 50.
I cut the AI bull calves yesterday. They just didn't impress me this year.
Bangs vaccinated some heifers to retain. I'm full up on capacity so I will have to sell some pairs next spring as the grass greens up to keep the herd moving forward.
Hopefully the snow doesn't get too deep this winter. I enjoy the cows out on stalks!
Edit: added a picture of the steer pen shortly after wean and a early August on pasture.
