Subject: Why are my meters eating plates?

Planter is a 2011 1770NT with XP row units. This has been on ongoing issue, when the grooves around the outside of the plates get deep enough the seal loses contact and thus, vacuum. The odd thing is that it seems to only be happening with milo plates as I don't see the groove in any of my cotton plates. The only thing different is that for planting milo the wiper is replaced with a knockout wheel which is seemingly what has to be causing the wear except no part of the knockout wheel contacts the disk anywhere outside the cells. I'm getting tired of buying new plates every year so a solution would be great.
