Iowa | I run a r52 gleaner. Today I got into a variety that shells really hard. It has a really blocky ear and the kernels are more square than rectangle when you look at the dent. Never really noticed this before but it makes the combine really rumble, it’s variety specific, cause when I get into the one 15 acres over its nice and quiet. Both running 17-20% depending on the ground. Only tried 6 bags of it, yielded really well, but man it feels like your throwing rocks in the machine. Very little cob breakup, which is something us gleaner guys fight — also way less red chaff when I unload. Anybody ever see this before? Interesting thing is it pops hard on the head, but rest of the plant is junk — variety next to it is fully leafed yet. I had 3 hybrids the same rm, very similar yields, but don’t think this one will be back. | |
