Subject: Is farming that dangerous?

Zabcikville, TX
In a single word, YES! But it doesn't have to be. Too many of us have been hurt, or killed, doing "what we've always done". The older I get ( I'll be 43 on thanksgiving day), the more I take precautions. I take the 15 seconds to drop the stop for the feeder house. Or, when in doubt, shut the tractor off. Most times a lifetime, or half of one depending on your age of the accident, is NOT worth the time you saved. Don't get me wrong, I've got some scars, but still have all of my limbs, fingers, and everything. NEVER think you're too busy to call your wife, your landlord, your neighbor, or ANYONE! If nothing else, they can stand there, with phone in hand, "just in case". And if nothing happens, it was a good day.
