Huron county Ontario Canada | Looking for people's experience with putting knives into a four auger Lucknow stationary mixer. Currently don't have any knives in it and just put in 4 small square bales of hay in a batch which is 1700 kgs. The mixer is about 80% full at this size batch and the hay doesn't get chewed up real well unless you let it mix for a long time. I do fill out of tower silo's and the mixer is likely running for 25 minutes total with the hay being put in almost right away.
Would knives help with sizing the hay or would they make the hay really short with mixing for 25 minutes? This is being fed to milking holsteins if that makes a difference.
Any idea on whether adding knives would change the power requirements? I only have 10 hp electric on it so don't have unlimited power available.
