Subject: From IRS on phony emails, etc...........

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

Notice from IRS about phony emails, etc.

"Tax Professionals Warned Against Account Takeovers
The IRS is warning tax professionals of a growing cybersecurity problem: account takeovers that are leading to fraudulent tax filings for individuals and businesses. Scammers usually impersonate as a familiar organization such IRS e-Services or a private-sector tax software provider or, in some instances, as another tax professional, a familiar bank or, increasingly, a cloud-based storage provider. The email typically seems urgent, advising immediate action. A disguised link may take users to a page that looks like the login pages for IRS e-Services or a tax preparation software provider; or it may load interactive malware.
Defensive steps. The IRS recommends defensive steps that include educating employees, using strong passwords, encryption software and malware/phishing protections, using multiple authentication, checking Electronic Filing Identification Number counts weekly, and reporting security incidents. The IRS asks that tax professionals forward fraudulent phishing or malicious emails to http://[email protected]"
