Subject: Making jam? be safe,

western NY
I'm by no means a cook but I am a firefighter. Tonight we were called out to a house fire in a neighboring town. By the time we got there the fire itself was out, just some cleanup to do. What I noticed as soon as I entered the kitchen, where the fire was, was there were at least 40 freshly made jars of jam on the table. I then looked a little moor and sure enough there were boxes of sealing wax on the counter, along with a pan full of it splattered around the sink. The housewife had been sealing the jam and got the wax on fire. I never talked to her, she was in the yard with the ambulance crew, looked like she had some smoke inhaleation.

I feel so bad for this women. I don't think most, if any of the other firefighters there realized that not only was here kitchen ruined but, she must have been at work all day making that jam, and before picking those berries. So if you still seal your jam with wax be carful.
