Subject: 8300 John Deere jumping out of gear into neutral , speed on corner post reading zero

My speed sensor stops working intermittently on this tractor and then she defaults to neutral. Anybody know the procedure for trouble shooting the speed sensor? I think I found it on top of the diff under the seat. Wiring looks ok as far as I can see. Speed on corner post goes down to zero before it jumps out of gear. Is there a remove and test procedure for this sensor?
