Greencastle, Pa. | Below are some photos of We-Kings Farm corn silage harvest this fall. It was to say the least "a very interesting year" To start our crop year for corn we cut the rye cover crop for silage about the last week of April/first week of May. Was the last week of April this year, cut 100ac. and then it started to rain. Was two weeks on the ground and then lost 40 ac. Could not return to plant corn until last week of May [5-29] Had four-tons of turkey litter spread per acre by a Tera-Gater with a BBI litter box on it. Due to wet fields some of our corn was not planted until June 21st. No other fertilizer was used. All corn was ether RR-Bt and/or RW. Number of days was 111 to 115. Harvest population was 41,500 plants per ac. in 30in rows. Rain fall from end of May to Sept. was nine [9] inches from 23 rain events, only 3 events were an inch or more. Even with a year like this one the "tonnage" was quite good!!!!! The low was 22 t/ac. with the high being 36.7 for an av. of 24.6 tons/ac. on 105 ac.,so we are pleased. Enjoy the photos+++++++++++++++ "Kingbaby"
