Western Iowa | Some day I might not have to be so 'thrifty', but I haven't stopped yet.
I really needed a better truck auger. As luck would have it, local sale had one last fall that was wind damaged. Still had 90% of the paint on the intake auger, so it was really close to new. Had a decent kink in it that pushed the steel in a good inch or better.
I supported the auger, cut off the landing gear mounting, and then cut out the dent that went about 50% around. Welded the landing gear mounting to the band, then bolted it all back together. Just had to adjust things as I tightened the band down so the auger was straight.
Nicest auger I have ever fixed. I have done a few to get by. Pretty easy really. I need to slip it into the shop to stitch weld the band on, caulk the rest and paint.
I bought it for $1250, spent about $300 for parts (needed a hub and rim also). About 4 hours shop time so far. It will likely be worn out junk when it leaves here, so I can look past the repair for the $ saved.
