Central WI | Finishing up our rye harvest and all of our fields are lodged bad. We did have some winds but I see some neighbors have some rye that is taller and still standing.
I heard that to much nitrogen can cause this. The fields are so consistently lodged that it makes me believe we could have prevented some of it. We did apply some nitrogen early in spring. Not sure on how much, but if that's the issue I will check my paperwork and cut back.
Our soils are also consistently low in K. I wonder if that would have any effect.
Only been growing rye for a few years so I am still new to the crop. | |
