NC Iowa | i ran across the camera that i acquired at the auction where i got the photo album with 128 pictures of farm scenes. it is a 3x5 plate camera. the photos are the same size as the plate with no enlargement. that explains why they are so sharp. they can be enlarged on the computer screen a great deal to see background images.
i bought this camera and a 6x9 auto graflex from the 1918 era, with the album for $3.00. i later sold the auto graflex for $150 on ebay.
i think i am about 1/3 the way through on posting the pictures.
i am including the sale bill from the auction. let me know if you know anything about the family. maybe if some of the heirs are still around they would like them. after i am done posting, i will probably donate them to the local historical society.
Conley Camera Co., of Rochester, Minnesota, was a camera maker. From approx. 1898 to 1926 it made cameras. Its products were marketed mainly by Sears, Roebuck & Co. , Chicago. Until 1908 Sears sold Conley's cameras badged as "Seroco". Another distributor was Northern Photo Supply Co. in Minneapolis. One of its special products was the Model A Conley Panoramic Camera (made for Northern as Queen City Panoramic Camera) which made 140 degree 3 1/2" x 12" pictures on type No. 103 roll film. Beside other roll film folders and plate folders the company made box cameras for roll film and box cameras for plates, including magazine cameras based on the company's own patents from its early years.
edit: i just now see that the auction was in the vicinity of the buddy holly crash site.
