Subject: How to keep Dion forage box augers from jamming?

SW Ontario
I'm wondering if anyone has any advice on how to keep the front cross auger in a Dion forage box from jamming, especially in haylage.

We have a pair of 1016's, and last summer I think we replaced 7 pairs of the main drive belts. The cost of the belts is a nuisance, but the real problem is the half hour of downtime to change them. Haylage gets jammed between the auger and the housing and then the belts either slip or break. We have tried different types of belts with no luck, they almost always go before the shearbolt on the auger. We have tightened up the housing as much as possible which helped some and also run water into the front of the wagon which seems to helps a bit too.

We have been tempted to replace the pulleys and belts with a chain but then we have no main clutch. Is there any way to reduce or eliminate this problem short of trading the boxes in? I've noticed the new Dion's are using a cross conveyor . . .
