| With the drop in the corn market and how some are saying how good the corn crop is looking, even though a lot was late planted, I thought I would give an experience we had last year. We planted alot of are corn three to four weeks behind normal last year (normal 15th April, last years plant dates around 20th May). We have some irrigation and usually wait till last to plant these fields. Everything was ideal and the corn was looking great. Started to notice a lot of tipping back as the ears started to fill. After the combine ran through these fields, we estimated are yield reduction at 20 bu/acre. that was being conservative and attribute it to the late planting. I feel that the combines will have the final say this year and I think it will be to the disappointing side. Just a thought when you are looking at these markets and deciding what to do. Have a great day. | |
