East central Iowa | I built a door that will roll across a doorway that has an arch. It would have been more work and expense to make a regular door for the opening and fill it in. I am assured by my daughter in law and wife that these types of doors are the "in" thing now. I see my latest copy of Rockler Woodworking catalog has hardware for such doors and I see them on HGTV too.
I took the advice of putting a groove in the base but will not use a single rod or bolt in the groove. Instead I will use a piece of flat 3/8" steel about 3" long. Any stress will be spread out over a larger area and it should keep the door better aligned.
I had to make a jig to hold the router on the bottom of the door and center it on the bottom. I used plastic given to me from another AgTalk member. Thank you. Below are some pictures of the door, its construction and the jig.
