SC Wisconsin | Next year we were able to pick up a 350 acre piece of land in SE Iowa that's been in my family for about 80 years. The last 10 years have a pretty unknown history, it was cash rented and there aren't any records of fertilizer applications. Prior to that, it saw a lot of livestock manure. We had the field grid sampled, and the co-op came back with some recommendations that seemed extremely high based on my math. I'm curious how others would approach building P levels back up on this farm? We'll definitly be applying crop removal going forward, but also think we need to build fertility over a couple year period.
Here are the results of the testing. I'm looking to come up with baseline application rates to build fertility for each of the gradients where we are under optimum levels (16-20). Crop removal then would be on top of these.
P Mehlich III PPM (dry)
0-10 (0.5% of the farm)
11-15 (7.8%)
16-20 (18.1%)
21-25 (29.8%)
25+ (43.7%)
