Subject: Insulating old farmhouse

SC Kansas
We are remodeling our nearly 100 year old farmhouse, and one of the next tasks is to insulate the attic, and maybe make it into a playroom for the kids. As of now, there's no insulation against the roof, but the floor is insulated. Still, during the summer you can feel the warmth against the ground floor ceiling (which is just below the attic). I don't know much about the spray foam insulation, but could I use that against the roof, and just leave it like that? Would that be enough to make it comfortable in an attic with a window unit or two up there when needed? What about any vapor? I've read that there isn't enough air exchange, so any moisture gets trapped and can create problems. Thanks
Drew
