I just spent the last hour in the rain opening up the French drain we had installed last fall. The drain through our barnyard was covered with 1/2" to 5" of soil which capped the drain so no water was going through the drain. With another 1 to 3" of rain predicted for tonight I wanted to make sure the drain was working.

Apparently the excavator took the easy way of simply pushing soil to level rather than adding soil to keep the drain open. I think I have a solution for the problem. Now I know where part of this year's income tax refund will be used.
