Subject: push button automatics?.....

Didn't want to hijack the lengthy 3 on the tree thread below.

How many folks ever drove a push button automatic tranny? And did anyone other than Chrysler build them?

The only pushbutton auto I ever drove or was familiar with was my grandfather's 1964 Plymouth Valiant. Slant 6 under the hood. A neat little "economy car" for those days.

IIRC, pushbuttons for N,D,2,1 started at the top and were easily spaced downward in a vertical row on the left side of the dash. To park, there was a park lever alongside the buttons to slide down the length of the shift quadrant into lock position after you pushed N. To take off, slide the park lever back to the top, and push D.

The car was of very utilitarian design and function, both inside and outside. Of course, most any vehicle built in 1964 was LOL!
