| Russian market wants to guarantee that meat imported have no presence of Ractopamine
The Russia can block exports of meat produced in the United States and in Canada. A statement released on Tuesday (22) on the website of the veterinary and phytosanitary surveillance Service of Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor) underscored the discontent over the lack of restriction on the use of Ractopamine, an additive that contributes positively to the increase in productivity in pig production in terms of performance. The lack of appropriate legislation on these issues may result in the imposition of temporary restrictions on the import of pork and beef to Russia from February 4 this year.
The statement was delivered by the head of Rosselkhoznadzor, Sergey Dankvert, to the u.s. food security representative, Ronald Jones and the veteriário head of inspection Services of Canada Ian Alexander. The service of Russia reports that Canada has agreed to ensure the absence of residues of Ractopamine in animal products from February 28, 2013. Already the US would not have provided any guarantee to meet the measures of the Russian market. In this context, the Rosselkhoznadzor asked again to be provided with assurances that pork and chilled beef sent from Canada and USA to Russia do not contain Ractopamine.
