Subject: Tissue Sample Iron Levels

I pulled a tissue sample on a corn field where there seems to be emergence problems in parts of the field. Here is some background information. Let me know if you have any ideas.

The soil is a loamy sand. Corn was planted on April 24th in Western WI. The field in question had paper mill sludge applied on it 2 years ago. Ammonium nitrate was applied to the field to help decompose the sludge. The same field was the same way last year, thought it was because it was dry, this cannot be the case, as we have ample moisture now.

All nutrients look to be at acceptable levels, with the exception of Iron at 609.00 ppm. Sufficient ranges are from 50- 250 ppm. What I am wondering is if the Iron is tying up other nutrients with the level being so high?

I thought I would ask here as there are many people here more intelligent than I about these matters. I do have some other resources that I am going to talk to but let me know what you guys think. Any ideas would be appreciated.

TIA
Nelson
