Subject: What to do about gearbox?

NE SD
I was mowing the haylot tonight with our JD 1518 batwing and when I was blowing it off with the leafblower I noticed that the vent for the main gear case(the one that splits the PTO into 3 outputs) is sheared off. Looks like the cover did it somehow. I never took a pick to it to clean the grass out of it as it was already dark, but should I just replace the vent, or should I drain the case, flush it out, and refill with oil, hoping for the best? Reason I ask, is because I don't have any idear as to whether the vents have a bottom to them or not, and I'm going to be in town tomorrow and could get the oil and parts then. I think, but I'm not sure, that it requires a special oil rather than just 80W90. This has been a good mower with exception to the hinges.......don't need any problems now.

TIA
