south central IOWA | I'm going to move my heifers over to a neighbors pasture and I have 2 options to get them there. The heifers are bred anywhere from 8 weeks ago to just a few days ago.
1- Get them all into the small lots that are used for the chute and load out 4 separate loads to trailer them to the pasture. Road trip would be about a miles worth.
2- Take them down the road about 3/4 of a mile using 4-wheelers to drive them along. One side of the road has a fence all the way with just a few gate openings to worry about. The other side has a fence for about a 1/4 of a mile and then your dealing with alfalfa fields and peoples houses that offer no support.
I would rather drive them down the road but with them being heifers has me wondering if that would be the thing to do. Maybe I should dribble some silage out in front of them the whole way since that seems to be the hot topic nowadays (rightfully so).
