Subject: Weaning calves in the heat

Van Meter IA
We have a group of cows that had to come home from a pasture that ran out of grass. Currently have the pairs dry lotted and the calves weigh around 400-450#. Lost one cow yesterday in the heat so today we put out a 300 gallon water tank and set up a sprinkler to cool them down. The calves are plenty big enough to wean and have been eating creep feed. The only concern is weaning them in the heat so that we can move the cows out to another pasture to get them in the shade. Are we gonna run into problems with the calves and cows bawling in the heat and stressing them out more? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
