Subject: Which welder to weld coupling to pump shaft?

North Central Alabama
Well i just time to look at my homeade pumping unit and the news is not good. The shaft between the 6 cyl. 352 Perkins and the Gould pump is about 12" long has a u joint in the middle and a steel setscrew coupling at the motor and the pump. The coupling at the pump worked loose and looks like it wore the keyway out in the pump shaft.
Now before i pull shaft and spend a bunch of money to redo keyway i want to check pump out to make sure it works and will be worth fixing.I want to weld the coupling to the shaft to try pump out.Do i use a mig welder or a stick to temporary weld to try pump out.If a stick is reccomended which # rod would you use?I may weld it permently and change the complete pump out when this irrigation season is over.
