Murfreesboro, Tennessee | I learned to pick cotton on an old JD 299 and 499 series pickers, and those are the last JD cotton pickers we owned. However, the red one burned last fall and we are looking for a picker for this harvest (if we have anything to pick come Sept) and have decided on JD due to a variety of reasons that have been discussed here before.
I was looking at the 9986 pickers, but considering the crop we are likely to have, I have decided to go to a 9976 picker.
Been looking and found some with the Pro 12 heads. I assume they have fewer bars than the Pro 16, but is that all the difference?
Anything I need to really look for in this model picker? Any particular year to start with on the 9976? Looks like 2001 may have been the last year they were made?
Any help would be appreciated.
