blairsville,pa | Just some ramblings from a guy who is always creepin but never posts here ( cause I got no stock). Was thinkin about how to make hay for brood cows with out giving up any production ground to hay. If I was just doin just a bean/ corn rotation and covered bean ground with barley in the fall. cut, wet baled, and wrapped it rite after boot stage in spring then hurry up and no till corn over the stubble. So if this brain storm works out I was figuring a six ton yeild (wet) so 35% dm bout 4200 lbs hay. 1250 lb cow x 2% = 25 lbs a day x170days = bout one cow an acre without tryin up any extra land??? Have a neighbor that would cut and bale and wrap for nothin as would be doing some planting and combinin for him. So finally to the question with all the extra time and cost would it be about a wash compared to just goin to auction and buyin hay? Sorry if any of that was hard to follow I'm on midnite shift this week and bout ready to pass out :) thanks guys | |
