Subject: Drying corn, and sticker shock.............

Oskaloosa, Iowa 52577

Upgrading drying units...........last time I bot any was in late 90's..........sure hope the mfgers can make money on double the prices........

Question.............I'm attempting to assess our current drying set up............

How long would you guess it would take to dry 19-20% down to 14% given following general conditions-----------

30ft bin 8-10,000bu, 3 stirrators, propane, 105-110 degrees (we cannot put the heat to it; have to dry it more gently), I don't know the size of the  heaters/fans but they were not the small versions, we start the stirrators when about 1/2 full, then the heaters at about 80%, outside temps usually 65-75 and humidity not excessive, usually clean the corn on way in to bin................

48--72 hours??  More towards 72??

We have to store the corn for a few months, so I am assessing the no. of additional heaters we need this year to keep the combine moving at reasonable pace........plus, it appears a couple of the heaters are not as efficient as they might be.

Thanks.
