Subject: Protein spreads on hard red spring wheat

Rivers, MB
Just making our deal for all our wheat for the 07 crop. What was the american hard red spring wheat crop like quality wise. I realize world supply is extremely tight, hence the good prices. Is it safe to assume that because of tight supplies that the premium for high protein wheat would be less this year than other years. The spread between winter wheat and spring wheat is much narrower than usual so I would think that the spread between 13.5 and 15.0 protein in spring wheat would be narrower as well. Would that be a correct assumption? Pricing wheat through the Canadian Wheat Board is much more difficult to know what you're getting paid for than our friends to the south can experience. Must be nice to walk into the elevator and be given a cash price instead the mess we're faced with.
Question for the Canadian's out there. Are the spreads on the DPC proteins and grades a better reflection of the actual spread on protein than the initial prices that came out for this crop year. There's quite a difference right now.
