I built this to keep weaker lambs warm. I got the idea from South Dakota State University and it really works good. The picture isn't the best, but you can see how it works. It's made from a 30 gallon plastic drum and a heat lamp inside and a 40 watt bulb. Anything else is too warm. What I like is the barrel is tied to the corner of the pen and the lamb stays with the mother. No losing the scent. Every time we have used it, the lamb comes out to drink and promptly goes back in. Lambs love it. Back in the old days, the lambs spent the night in the house and we spent the night in the barn. Now we all spend the night in the barn. The lamb in the picture was about a week old when it was taken. She was born so small I figured there was no way she would make it without bottle feeding for weeks. The other two in the set were full sized. Bottle fed her twice and that was it. Never got stepped on either since she stayed in her "house".
