northeastern Ohio

I am thinking about putting a ceiling fan in the kitchen.  What brands should I be looking at?

My parents have a Cassablanca that they installed 20 years ago.  I think it cost about $300 at the time and was supposed to be the "Best", but have had numerous electrical problems (wall controller had to be replaced several times).  The light fixtures have also warped (too thin of metal).

Home Depot sells Hunter, Designers Choice, and Hampton Bay.  Lowes sells Hunter and Harbor Breeze.  Anyone recommend any of these brands?

The last couple I have put up are Hunters, they seem OK. I took down other ones that were unbalanced or made funny noises when running to put these up. The Hunters seem to be adequate quality, no wobbles or noise.

Seven Hunters have been running for 17 years except for a few minor power outages and have never failed us.

As the others said, Hunter.  We have a 5 blade model that has run continuously in our Great Room for 17 years.  The only time it stops is to get dusted or switch directions.

+1 Hunter, also most all wobble can be traced to the ceiling box not strong enough

Hunter 22 years, replaced the bearings five years ago, balanced and no wobble. I like the old classic design.

Hunter! We have hunter fans in every bedroom, living room and kitchen. Ran to two switches, one for the lights and one for the fan. On the fan switch we put in dimmer switches to adjust fan speed so we dont have to pull the chain, although some come with a remote these days.

They're all made in China now at least the last time I looked I couldn't find a domestic one. Nicest fan I ever put up was a Westinghouse. What made it nice was that it had quick connect blades that didn't require the 2 little screws per blade. Ran quiet with no wobble. We have 9 in 2 houses of all different brands selected by the style we liked in the price range we wanted. None have had any problems or failed yet.

New hunters are available with snap on blades with no screws now. Metal pieces on blades snap into rubber gromet.

I've got ellington (i think that's the name) fans in my house. My brother (electrician) told me to take the old fan out of the old house and put it in one of the bedrooms because they have a lifetime warranty. The thing is at least 20 years old and runs like a top yet. I run mine on a dimmer switch too.

We have a couple of Cassablanca's after 10 + years and one has given me some controller problems I thought but found out it wasn't wired correctly. We use the spiral bulbs and use 100 watt rated bulbs in place of the older 60w incandescent which put out more heat and used 60 watts vs 23 for the new bulbs, plus we have far better light. Be a little careful about the Hunter fans as they do make cheaper models for the big box stores. Bought my Cassablanca's on line and saved big money after a lighting store locally tried to rip me off.

Not cheap, but move the air quietly and with no fussing or farting around with blade balance or other non sense.

18' Ceiling in our living room and will still move the dogs fur when the thing is on high.
