Guy looking for partners approached a buddy of mine...

He buys 400 wt calves for around $650. Backgrounds in lot for 45 days. Sends to flint hills for 130 days on rented grass ($40 a head). Then run thru a barn. He wants $850 up front. Do the math should make $185 a head at $1.30. I'm scared at that much up front. What do u guys think?

supposed flint hills grass cost.

( he quoted bout half what it really costs on that )

Pumpkin, find someone you KNOW to partner cattle with.

AND it is to much up front, wonder if the supposed grass operator get his last half when these leave?

Seems to me like if your talking a true partnership on this, You put up the cattle, your partner puts up the backgrounding then flint hills grass etc..

Deal is a scam Pumpkin, MO. ( George Young get out, or is Tommy Gibson's puppettes rolling again?)

are simple:
One guy buys the cattle, one guy buys the grass, and one guy runs em ( handles the day to day operation etc.. ).

End of season ( cycle out ), sell the cattle, subtract hard expenses and split the up 3 ways.

btw, there's NO interest cost calculated on the capital used in the afore.

Basically what would be interest costs for more traditional operations is simply the cost of opportunity for their share of the up in the finished cattle.

Growing calves has been a common scam for generations.
the kicker is usually they will let you make some money- so you do alot more at a time-- then they take you for a big ride.
Can't count on my hands and feet the number of people I know that got taken that way.
Its especially dangerous dealing over state lines.

But now adays you can get taken in most anything you do :)

If that guy looking for an investor or partner was so good at growing calves, he wouldn't need a partner or investor.........

And guys that got there "stuff" together wouldn't need all the money up front.

Deal smells bad to me, I wouldn't do it

The cattle are cheap and the grass is priced cheaper , why someone need to go through a barn to sell their yearlings (the variable) after having this good of plan you'd think they would aready have home at a feedlot. Run very fast , away from this deal.
